VOCATIONAL TRAINING AT THE FACULTY OF OENOLOGY
Amongst the many programmes and services offered at the Faculty of Oenology, all for the purpose of producing quality wines, the diffusion of the best wine-growing and oenological processes throughout the entire population working in the wine industry has always been a priority. Actions which perfect and popularize these processes all come about through the most recent scientific and technical knowledge, and this thanks to their being in sync with the theoretical and applied research done at the Faculty's laboratories.
This ongoing vocational training has existed since 1949: every year, the organized educational activities are more and more successful and attract both French and foreign professionals.
Since this same date, the Faculty of Oenology has been perfecting wine-tasters. It is now known as one of the very first wine-tasting schools in the world and stands out from the others by offering the DUAD, University Diploma in Wine-tasting Aptitude, a unique diploma of its kind in terms of wine-tasting, recognised by all of the actors in the wine industry.
En 2008, the Faculty of Oenology began offering a new university diploma: the DUIO – University Diploma Initiation to Oenology which is intended to impart oenological know-how to the general public.
The vocational training courses that the Faculty of Oenology offers, thanks to their diversity, are intended for all wine industry professionals who want to develop their knowledge but also, in the case of certain training courses, for well-informed amateurs.
The different training courses allow you to acquire:
basic knowledge necessary to understanding the different issues surrounding the cultivation of vines (soils and terroir, physiology, pathology), the maturation of grapes (ripeness), and wine (elaboration, preservation, conditioning, microbiology);
current oenological information and practices, initiation to, or simply the improvement of, wine-tasting.
DUAD : University Diploma in Wine-tasting Aptitude, issued by the Université Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2 and without rival, it offers a solid wine-tasting education.
DUIO : University Diploma Initiation to Oenology, also issued by the Université Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2, allows you to acquire more general information on vines and wine, catering to students who are not necessarily scientific nor wine-industry professionals.
Other diplomas:
The DNO (National Diploma in Oenology), the Doctorate, the Master's and the Vocational Degree are also available via continuing education for students who haven't been in an academic programme during the two years prior to registration.
