The Faculty of Oenology is involved in research and training exchange programme partnerships (Erasmus, Atlantis, Cooperation agreement). Within this framework, an oenology network has been created to develop research cooperation on the subject of vines to wine, production and consumption.

To this end, ten home Institutes with long and well-established track records in research and training courses, have set up the Oenology Network. Partners work together in the field of viticulture-oenology with the aim of promoting exchanges in the field of Oenology, within the Oenology Network Institutes. The Oenology Network offers synergistic as well as complementary courses which focus on grape and wine quality, which are based in the modern research laboratories in any of the ten home Institutes:

The Network's main concern: performing research on vines and wine (approaches to molecular, genomic, process and consumer research) in the context of climate change and sustainable viti-viniculture.
Several topics can be studied within the framework of this network :
Plant biochemistry and metabolite regulation. Hormones during the maturation period. Microclimate around grapes. Exchanges between the plant and grapes in late-harvested grapes. Yeast microbiology and functional genetics. Process optimization, fermentation kinetics, bio-control agents. Wine processing, fermentation chemistry, wine colour Chemistry, Analytical chemistry, wine analysis, and flavour chemistry. Grapes; table and wine grape production. Descriptive analysis methodology. History and economics of wine-making. Physiology of vine water stress. Microbial ecology and genomics of lactic acid bacteria. Breeding and rapid development of rootstocks with desirable traits. Health and taste effects of phenols and other components. Vine genomics. Effects of water stress on vineyard performance. Viticultural effects on wine/grape quality.
Pr Andrew WATERHOUSE (University of California, Davis) has been made Doctor Honoris Causa of the University Bordeaux 2 the 18th of September 2009 in presence of the University Board Bordeaux 2.
Several joint PhD are currently working on:
Armine Schuttler: Riesling and Sauvignon typical aromas. Collaboration between Philippe DARRIET (Bordeaux) and Doris RAUHUT (Geisenheim) - 2008-2011.
Alvaro Gonzalez: Phenolics of grapes skins. Collaboration between Laurence GENY (Bordeaux) and Edmundo BORDEU (Santiago) - 2008-2011.
Pr Mietton-Peuchot (Bordeaux) and Pr Christmann (Geisenheim) are developing, within the framework of Hessen-Aquitaine co-operation, a project concerning "oxygen permeability and closures". In this project a Post-Doctorate has been hired: Saturnin ADOUA - 2008-2011.
The OENOPRO group of the UMR 1219 Oenology is welcoming Reyes Gonzalez for 6 months in September 2010 on the topics: “grape phenolic antioxidants as wine sub-products”. Collaboration between Pr. P.L.TEISSEDRE (Bordeaux) and Pr. F.ZAMORA (Tarragona).
News:
Within the context of the 3rd cultural festival « Hungarian Interference » the 26th of march 2010 at 14:00 P.M., in the Halle des Chartrons, a conference on « Wine, tourism and cultural patrimony » will focus on the universities' research and teaching. Pr JAKAB (University of PECS),Pr DONECHE and Pr TEISSEDRE (University of Bordeaux) are involved in this program that will include wine tasting. M.
